Kitesurfers came from all over the world to compete in the 2012 Cabarete Bay Kite Challenge which ran from 16 to 17 June in Cabarete, Dominican Republic. The CBKC 2012 was highly anticipated by Cabarete, international spectators, and the participants.
CBKC promised and delivered a great event and an exciting battle of freestyle kiteboarding, between high end competitors from all over. Strong winds, loads of fun and a good time for all…
Cabarete is revered as one of the best kite spots on the globe, offering beautiful beaches, natural ambience and strong winds. Cabarete is a prime Kitesurfing, windsurfing, Surfing, laser sailing and SUP destination. The event was held in front of the Millennium Resort & Spa and the Laurel Eastman Kite School, right in the heart of Cabarete Bay.
Competitors from South Africa, France, Estonia, Canada, Ireland, United States and of course, the Dominican Republic, battled it out against each other and the elements for prizes and bragging rights. We were all incredibly pleased with the outcome.
Lauren and the Kite Challenge organizers opened the fund raising with a silent auction, movie screening of F-One “Antandroy”, and raffles at the Carib Wind Center and Eze Bar in Cabarete on Friday evening, one week before the main event. They closed the event on the evening of June 17th with another silent auction, more great raffles and the award ceremony, at Club Ojo in Cabarete.
This event would not have been possible without the support of our international and national sponsors. To see who they are and for more information about the event, please visit our Facebook page for this event, and help support www.dominicandream.org. This is an incredible organization doing loads of good here in the Dominican Republic.
This event turned out better than we could’ve ever imagined. We hope to do it again next year, bringing the community together once again to enjoy this wonderful sport. KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR US NEXT YEAR, 2013!
